Abstract

Abstract: In this work, the terahertz (THz) frequency broad-range nematic phase stability under the effect of an external electric field is examined. Under the influence of an external electric field, the liquid crystal (LC) molecule 4-deca-alkylamino-4'-cyanobiphenyl (10ABP) has unfavourable or negative order characteristics. Under THz frequency, the nematic phase is stable in the electro-optical properties of refractive index, birefringence, director angle and order parameter under the influence of an external electric field, whereas the smectic phase exhibited nonstable behaviour (tilted stage). Even though the electro-optical parameter fluctuates at higher electric fields, the isotropic phase maintains its stability. The chemical transition state of the 10ABP LC molecule is more suited for the compound's reaction process. The 10ABP LC is also excellent for conducting applications because of its modest band gap.
