Conformational Analysis of Some β-Halohydrins via G3 Calculations

The conformational analysis of fifteen β-halohydrins, XCR1R2CR3R4OH, (X=F, Cl and Br) had been studied by ab initio G3 method. The enthalpies of formation values were calculated for nine conformers of each β-halohydrin. The (g-, g+) and (g+, g-) conformers were found to be the most stable due to intramolecular H-bond formation. These H-bonds are weaker than intermolecular H-bonds formed between alkyl halides and alcohols. This trend is more obvious in flouro-species. The rotation of C- X bond of (g-, g+) conformers by 360° gives three transition states, this rotation was found to require 6-7 kcal/mol.

Synthesis and Characterization of Some Transition Metal Complexes of Thiocarbohydrazone Schiff Bases

Synthesis and Characterization of some thiocarbohydrazone Schiff bases and their complexes with Cu(II),Ni(II),Zn(II),Co(II) and Fe(II) are described. The Schiff bases were obtained by condensation of thiocarbohydrazide with a group of aldehydes in 1:2 molar ratios. The antibacterial activity of the compounds against Acinetobacter sp gram negative and Staphylococcus gram positive strains was examined.

Cloud-Point Extraction and Selective Spectrophotometric Determination of Pb(II) and Cu(II) using Synthesized N1,N2-Diphenylhydrazine-1,2-Dicarbothioamide and an Anionic Surfactant

A new micelle-mediated phase separation method using an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), for preconcentration and spectrophotometric determination of Pb(II) and Cu(II) is presented. The procedure is based on the complex-formation reaction between Pb(II) / Cu(II) and a synthesized chelating agent, N1,N2-diphenylhydrazine-1,2- dicarbothioamide (PHCT) and subsequent extraction of the colored complex using sodium dodecyl sulfate  which was used as extracting agent at room temperature. The chemical variables affecting the separation and determination procedure were optimized. In optimum conditions Beers law was obeyed in the range 0.01–0.90 µg mL-1 for both cations. Limit of detection at the wavelength of the maximum absorption was found to be 2 ng mL-1 and 3 ng mL-1 for Pb(II) and Cu(II), respectively. The proposed method was applied successfully to the determination Pb(II) and Cu(II) in natural and waste water, and spiked human plasma samples.

Dinuclear Tungsten and Molybdenum Tetracarbonyl Complexes Doubly-Bridged by Bis(phenylthio)alkane Bidentate Ligands

A new series of dinuclear group 6 metal tetracarbonyl complexes containing two bis(phenylthio)alkane ligands symmetrically bridging two M(CO)4 moieties of the type cis-{[M(CO)4]2(μ-PhS(CH2)nSPh)2} [M = W (1), Mo (2); n = 3 (a), 4 (b), 5 (c), 6 (d)] have been prepared and characterized.

Unexpected Reduction of C-Cl Bond to C-H Bond by Hydrazine-Mediated Reaction During the Synthesis of Alkylbenzimidazoles Derivatives

Acid-catalyzed cyclocondensation of 2-chloroacetic acid and 2-chloropropionic acid with some substituted o-phenylenediamines afforded the corresponding 2-(1-chloroalkyl)benzimidazoles. Upon treatment with hydrazine hydrate, in order to obtain hydrazine-containing compounds as suitable precursors for construction of new heterocyclic systems, the latter compounds underwent an overall unexpected reduction of the C‑Cl bond to C-H bond in a sequence of SN2 followed by bonds (atom) rearrangment to furnish 2-alkylbenzimidazoles.
